Snorkeling at the Blue Lagoon

 March 17

Our driver picked us up at 9 AM for the  45 km or28 mile trip to the Blue Lagoon. Initially we encountered congested traffic with lots of motor bikes but the traffic clear somewhat as we got out in the country.  Our drive ended in a little village jammed with backpackers and all sorts of other tourists. After picking up our fins (we have our own masks and snorkels)  we were guided down to the beach to our boat. We were surprised to learn that we were the only snorkelers aboard.  A short ride later we dropped into the "Blue Lagoon."

I never saw so many different corals, striking in colors of greens and browns. Very nice. A dozen or so tropical fish, some of which we hadn't seen before, swarmed around us to gobble up a few bread crumbs. Unfortunately, the battery on my very old GoPro wouldn't hold a charge so no underwater photos.

After snorkeling about  one hour, we moved to another spot. The water was deeper; the coral that we did see looked bleached out and Joanne's mask strap broke. Back at the village we enjoyed an included lunch before heading back to the resort. Along the way, we stopped so that Joanne could "look around at a high end dress shop and then again a low end shop.  She buy anythingbut had fun looking.
