Stag Island, Canada!

When we lived in the Houston area we heard Canadian astronaut, Chris Hadfield, play guitar with his brother Dave in a little place in Nassau Bay.  Little did we know we would receive an invitation to visit Stag Island, near his summer home.   Our Friendship Force friend, Judy Carson, has a place there - and before we knew it, we were introduced to Chris Hadfield's wife and received a copy of his book (courtesy of Judy), An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth.  Great read!  One of our favorite songs we heard him sing was Canadian Tire.  This place according to his lyrics is "the last refuge of men."  We were excited to visit a Canadian Tire (they even print their own money coupons!)   It is HUGE - a combination of a tire store, camping equipment, and assorted items.

Detroit - Greek town

Pegasus has great Greek food!
Judy picked us up at the Detroit Airport and gave us a quick tour of the downtown area complete with a visit to Greek Town, where we enjoyed a delicious meal in Pegasus, a local landmark Greek eating establishment.  Judy invited 6 of us from our Friendship Force club (all she could accommodate in her house by the river).  On the highway on our way over to Canada, we were in an auto accident!  The guy that hit us fell asleep at the wheel after gambling all night at a Detroit casino!  Boy, were we lucky we weren't hurt. Judy's car was damaged, but we managed to drive it back to her parking spot outside of Stag Island.

We had a great time visiting, hiking around the island and playing with her two dogs.  We enjoyed the lunch boat tour of the St Clair river and touring her area of Canada - we even visited an Oil Museum and tried the local delicacies - Peameal Sandwiches, Poutine (French fries with cheese curds dipped in brown gravy), and butter tarts!  We'll also remember sharing the bathroom with 7 people (just like the home I grew up in!)   We visited Cecilia & Ted Bridge, long-term Friendship Force members, who live on the mainland close by.  Cecilia made a wonderful lasagna dinner and helped transport us around. Lots of fun!

Judy's car is side swiped - also check out hanging side view mirror!
