Canada and End of our Viking Transatlantic Journey

The "Wake of the Vikings' cruise has been a fantastic journey!  From the breathtaking fjords of Norway and Greenland to the picturesque coastline of Canada, we have been in awe of the beauty of the natural world.  We spent an extra day in Montreal before flying home to assess what Hurricane Helene did to our lovely Punta Gorda.  Fortunately our home fared well, but downtown Punta Gorda flooded in the historic district.  Lots of cleanup is happening and hope for the future!

Greenland

September 19 -  Prince Christian Sound  We awoke to breathtaking Prince Christian Sound.  We passed small icebergs called growlers and magnificent glaciers.  We were awed by the stark beauty.  Most everyone on our cruise commented that this was the highlight of the Transatlantic crossing!  We never imagined Greenland to be so beautiful.

The mountainous scenery dwarfs  the the tiny village of Aappilattoq. The captain tooted the ships's horn as we passed by.

Iceland

 September 17 -

Iceland, land of fire and ice!  Located near the Arctic Circle, it's a one-of-a-kind stop.  With only 400,000 people living here, every village has a geothermal hot springs pool for socializing and soaking!  they even have an 869-mile ring road for exploring.  We traveling some of it to the Golden Falls, checked out a novel power plant, wandered through geysers and finished it off by walking through the tectonic plate rift between Eurasia and North America  Quite a great visit!
